World Password Day
May 2, 2019 is officially World Password Day.
Happy World Password Day! What better way to promote good security hygiene and password habits than with your friends at Bates Security? Here are some helpful tips to help you improve your online security.
Strong Passwords
The use of strong passwords usually contain at least 8 – 10 characters including a mix of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and symbols. It is beneficial to avoid personal information such as pets, birthdays or family names.
Different Passwords
When managing more than one account, it would be ideal to have the same password for all accounts. Unfortunately, if someone managed to unlock one password, they would be able to access all your accounts. To eliminate that issue, using a different password for each online account is important especially online banking and financial accounts.
Multi-factor Authentication
Multi-factor authentication is a security system that requires more than one method of authentication to verify the user’s identity. This adds an additional layer of security on top of your standard password which secures your accounts even more. Check your security settings to see if multi-factor authentication is available and turned on.
